Project

In 2007, California-based Skywalker acquired 24 hectares (60 acres) on the northern shore of Umbria's Lake Trasimeno, the first European addition to a portfolio which would be further enriched in 2017 by the addition boutique winery, Château Margüi in Provence, southern France.

The Skywalker team immediately set about converting and restoring Il Convento dei Cappuccini, the 16th-century monastery at the centre of the Viandante del Cielo estate, into a welcoming, elegant ten-bedroom property. Il Convento provides exclusive, impeccable comfort for those seeking the ultimate in pampered relaxation in a setting of magnificent natural beauty, with privileged access to the estate's own wines, extra virgin olive oil and garden produce.

Beyond the gate, Umbria – Italy’s “green heart” – awaits with all its charms.

In 2013, work began to convert the land around the convent, then mostly occupied by olive groves, into four hectares (ten acres) of vineyards interspersed with olives. The south, east and west-facing terraces sloping elegantly down from Il Convento towards the shimmering waters of Lake Trasimeno were reshaped and planted with a mix of international varieties and native grapes that have been grown for centuries in central Italy, to create wines which blend the cosmopolitan with the traditional to produce a splendid reflection of all that Viandante del Cielo holds dear.

With the collaboration of award-winning enologists Maurizio Castelli and Mery Ferrara, an elegant, unobtrusive and uniquely streamlined cellar was purpose-built to nurture and age the wines of Viandante del Cielo in optimal conditions.

The first vintage was entirely produced in the new facility in 2020, from fruit grown exclusively on the Viandante del Cielo estate using organic methods and which is tended, pruned and harvested by hand in time-proven tradition.
